Investing, Savings & Banking

Compare investment and savings assumptions on a like-for-like basis.

Directory open. Calculators in development. The links below connect published topic directories. Calculator pages are linked below and clearly marked as in development until their working tools are ready.

What this directory covers

An interest rate, a yield and a projected investment return are not necessarily the same measure. Timing, compounding, fees, taxes and inflation affect how much a balance might grow and what that balance could buy. A comparison needs a consistent period and a clear definition of the result.

Information to gather

Gather the starting amount, contribution timing, investment or savings horizon, costs and the assumption used for returns. For an after-tax comparison, identify the account type and tax treatment rather than assuming every dollar of growth is treated in the same way.

  • Starting balance and contribution timing
  • Time horizon and compounding convention
  • Fees and transaction costs
  • Tax treatment and account type
  • Inflation and return scenarios

Important boundaries and next steps

Projected returns can be lower than assumed and can be negative. These models are not product recommendations or guarantees. Registered accounts and personal tax provide useful next steps when the account structure or reporting treatment changes the comparison.

Planned calculators

The pages below are published placeholders for navigation. Their calculators are still in development; none currently provides a working calculation.

Official reference points
